Rock Climbing

All of the Adventure Learning Program’s weekly activities, enables participants the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zone to conquer fears, build confidence, self-esteem and self-reliance, all while developing social connections.

Rock climbing is a unique activity for adolescents to participate in on a regular basis because it not only builds endurance, strengthens muscles, and increases flexibility, but it addresses both the brain and mental health by strengthening critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as teaches participants to build trust with themselves and their peers.

Rock climbing is also known to reduce stress through the release of norepinephrine and during outdoor excursions increases exposure to higher levels of Vitamin D. Rock climbing has also been know to address other health risks including chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. Due to the physical exertion of rock climbing it increases the body’s heart rate providing a full-body cardiovascular workout.

The Adventure Learning Program has developed partnerships with various rock-climbing gyms, Texas Rock Gym and Momentum Indoor Climbing, to offer rock climbing opportunities to participants throughout the week. The Adventure Learning Program also offers outdoor excursions and overnight rock climbing trips.

The Adventure Learning Program and their partners provide all necessary equipment to their participants to engage in rock climbing.

Participants are required to bring clothing that are easily moveable in, closed toed shoes, and a refillable water bottle.
